    The city offers tours aboard a tram leaving every two hours, starting at 9 am, from Calle Juarez, in the heart of San Miguel de Allende. A total of 20 spots are visited during this tour, every place visited reflects a part of the town’s history, customs and culture. Each trip lasts approximately 1 hour 15 minutes, a guide narrates the historical details of the place which makes it more fun and an interesting journey. There are two stops in the route where tourists can descend from the unit to appreciate the place, these are the Paseo del Chorro and El Mirador.

    El Jardin Allende, also known as the Main Square of San Miguel de Allende is a place full of activity. Just sitting on a bench and admiring the famous “Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel” and the beautiful buildings that surround it is fascinating . In just one afternoon you will see parading through this space the most diverse characters; from the curious tourist, to children running, jumping and asking their parents to buy them either a balloon or a typical ice cream. The space is full of color, music and joy.

    El Mercado de Artesanía is the perfect place to see the handwork of local artisans who work with brass, wool, carved stone and mesquite wood, paper mache, glass, metalwork, and pottery. The market covers three blocks, so it is impossible to leave empty-handed. Take advantage of your visit to the craft market to admire the great work they do, prices are reasonable and the pieces are well worth.

    Near the outskirts of San Miguel, underground hot springs percolate to the surface and form pools. A ten-minute taxi ride out of town takes you to La Gruta (six miles outside San Miguel), a slightly shabby water park and picnic spot favored by locals. Two small mineral hot springs and a grotto are bordered by stone retaining walls, palm trees, wildflowers and sprays of bougainvillea.

    The archaeological site of Cañada de la Virgen is located just 25 kilometers West of San Miguel de Allende. Occupied between 540 and 1050 a.d., it is perched upon a small mesa surrounded by canyons and is made up of four patio/pyramid complexes, an ancient artificial pond and a ceremonial causeway covering the 16 hectares that is now government property.
